I am curious about peoples thoughts on the cheaper ranges of scooters, which I believe tend to be chinese (?) available from places like http://www.scooter.co.uk/125cc-scooter.html and http://www.lexmoto.co.uk/index.php I am not considering getting one, as I have already posted on here I recently got a 1 year old Honda PCX. I am just curious, how is it you can get one of these for like £900, when a new PCX (for example) or vespa or whatever, is around £2.5k. you could get 2 of those for less than the same price, and even if they last for less time, use the second one when the first packs up! What is the difference between one of these and something like a pcx, a runner or similar? cheers
The build quality is poor on a chinese, they are copies of other scooters, drive belt life is very poor, electrics are crap! The general feel is poor. Now the plus side is that the engines are good for what they are (excluding belt) they do seem to last. If you want a cheap A-B not bothered work tool, there ok. Resale values are very poor.
My first ped was a chinese one, i never actually had any real problems with it (at least not ones that i wouldnt expect on a japanese or italian bike). I changed the drive belt, got some malossi rollers, modified the exhuast and upjetted the carb. I also got an 80cc kit for it. All that lot came to about £50, and it sat at 45-50 all day long (it was a 4 stroke). After a paintjob it looked pretty damn good too;
this is my chinease moped 50cc and have had it for 3 years its 7 years old ive never had prolem with it exept speedo cable break pads and small rust on exhaust , these bikes will look after you if you look after them i payed 200 for this 3 years ago its done me bloody good also does 45 mph all day . LOOOK.. DONT THINK SHE IS THAT BAD LOOKING EITHER
my FREE korean scooter was sitting outside (in norway) for over 2 years, its endured snow, ice, heat, and its getting on to be nearly 15 years old, its obviously seen a hard life, it was in peices when i got it, no plug in it, the gearbox bearings where all fucked, i changed the gearbox bearings (skl bearings) and seal and machined the surface the wheel bearing sets on on the gearbox shaft (i took off 1mm and used a -1mm bearing), stuck it all together, and it started second kick! all the electrics work too
You might want to look through the forum and on the BBC's website for the panorama done on one of the Chinese bike suppliers you linked to. I expect you will get the idea that generally panorama isn't done to praise people/companies.
its what they say.. what you pay is what you get.. with a pcx or a vespa you can ride with comfort, fast and reliable.. with a chinese crap its slow unstable and not comfortable at all! they are just complete pieces of crap
