should i buy a gilera runner 172?

    are gilera runner 172cc scooters reliable to use everyday, i am seriously thinking of purchasing 1, but i have heard bad stories of siezeures and blown engines, can anyone comment who has had or still owns a gilera 172. Are they worthit :hmm:

    quite frankly yes

    keep it pretty much standard bar the 172kit, keep on top of ring changes etc and use good quality oil and the jobs a good 'un :thumbsup:

    chances are if you buy a used one its going to go bang at some poiint in your ownership of it.
    They get ragged, they are putting alot of strain on the std engine.

    You can have a reliableISH 172 but you need to build or inspect from scratch.

    ok so the 172 looks like a no no then :cry: , i have to settle 4 a 125 then

    or may a 180 reg as 125 ;)

    Nah nah mate get a 125/172/180 2 stroke, just get a good condition one which may take a while to find but its worth it! Then when you finally get one spend a good week checking everything is good and maybe re-build the engine/172 it.. If setup correctly the engine will last for years almost trouble free.

    Get a cheap 125 runner and rebuild what you need to. This means having a lot of money aside to do so. Then put your bits and bobs on. Might need a better crank.
    Search the forum for some hardcore tuning threads regarding 172 rebuilds, cranks, waterpumps, bearings, seals.

    I personally have a thing for 180s.
